What Is Colic ?

Colic is a common, but temporary, condition which causes excessive crying in an otherwise healthy baby. The exact causes of colic are unknown, but it’s thought that it can be caused by milk sensitivity. This is because in the first months of life, some babies are unable to break down lactose, a complex sugar in breast and formula milk. This is called temporary lactase intolerance. It can cause wind, bloating and discomfort, and one of the main symptoms is inconsolable crying. The condition affects up to one in five babies and although the crying is not harmful, it can be incredibly distressing for parents.

Colief Infant Drops 15ml

Colief Infant Drops are a new safe & natural approach to infant colic. Rather than attempting to treat the symptoms of colic, Colief allows babies with Transient Lactase Deficiency to enjoy their normal feed whilst greatly reducing the digestive discomfort associated with colic. Colief Infant Drops contain the naturally-occurring enzyme lactase. When added to the baby's usual milk, Colief breaks down most of the lactose and makes the feed more easily digestible. Colief Infant Drops is a food supplement - not a drug or medicine. As such it is more acceptable both to mothers and Healthcare Professionals and does not require a product license from the MHRA. Colief Infant Drops can be safely used from birth onwards. Colief should be used for as long as it takes the infant to “grow out” of its lactase deficiency, which it should do by gradually producing its own sufficiency of lactase enzyme as the gut develops - typically at around 3 - 4 months.

How To Use

Breastfeeding

• Try expressing a few tablespoons of breast milk into a small sterilized container
• Add 4 drops of Colief® Infant Drops
• Give this to your baby on a sterilized plastic teaspoon
• Continue breastfeeding as normal

Using Colief with Infant Formula

• Make up your baby's feed carefully according to the manufacturer's instructions
• Add 4 drops of Colief® Infant Drops to a formula that is warm, not hot
• Shake the feed occasionally, and feed the baby after half an hour having checked that the bottle is at the correct temperature
• Discard any unused feed

If you need to make up your baby's feed in advance

• Make up your baby's feed carefully according to the manufacturer's instructions
• Add 2 drops of Colief® Infant Drops to milk that is warm, not hot, and store in the refrigerator for approx 4 hours before use
• Warm to feeding temperature and feed the baby

Using ready-to-feed formula

• Warm the feed and add 4 drops of Colief® Infant Drops
• Wait for half an hour, shaking occasionally, before feeding the baby
• Discard any unused feed
